The Eickholt Gallery's "Random Moments" opens September first from 7-10pm at their new location at 93st Marks Place. This exhibit includes established artists whose work has been on the forefront of the New York arts scene.

Stephan Fowlkes has exhibited his unique woodwork in the Guggenheim Museum. His 2D images are highly original consisting of geometric paintings on wood canvases made of planks of beautifully textured stained wood that receive as much attention asthe painted surface. Though composed of geometric shapes, the images are organic with a primitive feel while maintaining a striking modernity. He successfully seeks to cause a confrontation between the dichotomous properties of the geometric and organic, the modern and the aged, to achieve mutual acceptance and harmony between the apparently divergent styles in pieces that he hopes reflect a "zen like quietude."

Born in Ghana, West Africa, TAFA's sensibilities are informed by the vibrancy and rhythms of his culture. He achieved international acclaim for the work that won him first prize in the Swiss Painting Competition in 1989, and since has been a growing sensation in the New York art world. Many of his works reflect various sociopolitical issues surrounding struggle with rich hued abstract subtlety. Among the most stunning of his works are his stadium pieces which offer a profound sense of visual depth with an almost cursory reliance on subject matter. These are images that must be seen to be believed.

Athos Zacharias is another long-standing presence on the New York art scene. His emergence came at an exciting time in art history when Pop Art was being born from Abstract Expressionism. He was able to participate in the dialogue of the time, interacting with the likes of Mark Rothko and acting as the de Kooning's first assistant. He has exhibited in museums and galleries across the globe and his development through abstract painting to his current experimentations with computer generated images is as seminal as anything he has ever done.

"Random Moments" also features Julie Sloane's mixed media pieces that uniquely reflect both her own growth and development and that of the city that surrounds her. Practicing a kind of "sidewalk archeology", Sloane incorporates found artifacts alongside delicate, organic imagery to create shabby chic images that reverberate dichotomously with the city rhythms.

In addition visitors can view the minimalist Anura Thamardt's haunting, scroll like images, Ken Vallario's celestial abstract paintings, Necmi Murat's equine wrought iron sculptures and Brianne Walasek's vivid abstractions. The exhibition is open through September 15th, 2005.
