Arthur Christopher Georgalas was born on November 18,
1979 in Bogota Colombia. Taking all the classes available to him in painting,
drawing and sculpture, he graduated from High school in 1998 with a scholarship
to study fine arts at the College of Saint Rose in Albany NY. At Saint
Rose Chris majored in Fine Arts with a concentration in sculpture and minored
in Graphic Design. Chris completed his final term in Florence, Italy at
Scuola Lorenzo De Medici studying sculpture and computer animation. Since
graduation in Spring 2003, Chris has been working as a graphic designer
for an indepedant film company, and putting considerable energy into creating
new works and exhibits. He began creating art before high school. "In high
school I realized I was serious about the field and decided to go to college
for it", Chris says. "During college I had to pick a concentration to study.
I decided to concentrate in Sculpture and minor in graphic design. Making
sculptures is a release for me. It has become an ongoing infatuation."
How would you describe your style?
"I work with the intricate detail, and perfection of
graphic design mixed with the three-dimensional mass of found materials.
The contradiction makes an interesting result. I use the objects as I would
with lettering, cropping and composition in Graphic Design. The found materials
almost place themselves. The used and worn found objects make the artwork
original. The objects have been altered in a way that canít be reproduced."
Which interpretation of your work do you like?
"I enjoy the idea of combining images on sculpture. I
hope to combine graphic elements with three-dimensional objects."
Who are your most important artistic influences?
"Some of the artists whom have inspired me are Jean-Michel
Basquiat, John Chamberlain, Marcel Duchamp, George Segal, Robert Gober,
Tadeusz Kantor, Henri Matisse, Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol, and Bill Woodrow."
