If paintings were songs, Jenie Moore's work would be Jay Z's "Hard Knock Life;" a mix of childish whimsy and populist sampling underlined by a throbbing beat. Throughout her colorful paintings, Moore makes ‘cartoonesque’ art without being comic. "I like the sleek power of designer labels," says Moore. "Like in rap, it's like name dropping except on canvas." Images of Teletubbies, Candyland, Rice Krispies Treats and bare-assed Japanimation figurines mix with Studio 54 folk, National Enquirer headlines, and label insignias to create a surround-sound world that's like channel, or shall we say, Chanel surfing. "I
am like a DJ sampling records. What I do on canvas is to juxtapose status
symbols, sex objects, childhood innocence, and perversity." Upon graduation she moved to New York City and continued to pursue her career as an artist. Her work has been featured in the windows of Henri Bendal, Catherine Malandrino, and Daffys, with articles in Opulence Magazine, Paper Magazine, Philadelphia Style, Playboy, and New York Arts Magazine. Jenie Moore has also been featured on THE TRAVEL CHANNEL. |
